Jeff Bezos Sells Record-Breaking Seattle Mansion Amid Move to Florida

A sprawling waterfront estate owned by Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos sold last week for $63 million, setting a new record for Washington State’s most expensive residential transaction, according to Puget Sound Business Journal.

The deal was finalized just days before Bezos’ aerospace company Blue Origin launched an all-female crew into space, featuring his fiancée Lauren Sanchez, pop star Katy Perry, and journalist Gayle King.

Located along the shores of Lake Washington, the 9,420-square-foot Hunts Point estate was originally purchased by Bezos in 2019 for $37.5 million through a blind trust — a common strategy to conceal a buyer’s identity.

Leaving Seattle Behind: Bezos Chooses Miami for His Next Chapter

In December 2023, Jeff Bezos said he would leave Seattle for Florida to be closer to his parents. He shared the news on Instagram. “I’ve lived in Seattle longer than anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here… Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”

After the announcement, Bezos bought two side-by-side homes on Miami’s Indian Creek Island. The combined price was $147 million. He had already purchased another house on the island — often called “Billionaire’s Island” — for $90 million.

The sale of his Seattle mansion marks his first step in letting go of local property. Still, he keeps the massive La Haye estate, a 30,000-square-foot Tudor-style mansion. He bought it in 2010 for $45 million. In 1998, he also acquired the neighboring property for $10 million.

Luxury Real Estate Still Thrives Despite Market Slowdown

The Hunts Point property, previously owned by late art collector Barney Ebsworth, includes three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a two-story guesthouse, a rooftop terrace with a fireplace, and a catering kitchen — all connected by a glass walkway and private elevator.

The $63 million sale surpassed last year’s top real estate transaction in Washington, a $38.9 million estate in Medina.

While Western Washington’s luxury market has cooled — with only 14 homes sold for $10 million or more in 2024 (down from 16 in 2023 and 19 in 2022) — the median home price on the Eastside remains strong at $1.7 million as of March.

Following his 2019 divorce from MacKenzie Scott, Bezos purchased the Hunts Point property and several other residences in the area, some reportedly used to house personal staff.
