Innocent hairdresser deported to one of the world’s toughest prisons
Andry José Hernández Romero, a 31-year-old Venezuelan hairdresser, was seeking asylum in the United States.
He fled Venezuela due to severe discrimination for being gay. However, his deportation to El Salvador was based on a tattoo, which was mistakenly linked to a gang affiliation.
Romero was stopped by U.S. border control because of tattoos of a crown and the words “Mum” and “Dad” on his wrists.
These tattoos are associated with the Venezuelan gang “Tren de Aragua.” Despite Romero’s insistence that he was not part of the gang, he was arrested and deported without a trial.
Joe Rogan expresses outrage over deportation of innocent man
On his podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience”, Rogan condemned the deportation of innocent individuals.
He said, “You got to get scared that people who are not criminals are getting lassoed up and deported.”
Additionally, political commentator Konstantin Kisin also expressed concern.
He noted that sending someone to a maximum-security prison in a country they’ve never been to was a deeply troubling outcome. Rogan agreed, calling the situation “horrific.”
Deported to a violent prison without due process
Authorities sent Romero to CECOT, a violent and overcrowded prison in El Salvador, which houses some of the world’s most dangerous criminals. Romero’s case highlights flaws in the deportation process, where officials treat innocent people as criminals without a fair trial.
Rogan emphasized the need for reform. He questioned how long it would take for someone like Romero to be freed. He also wondered if any measures were in place to correct the wrongful deportation.
