During the men’s Olympic Madison final, a contentious incident occurred. Dutch cyclist Jan Willem van Schip collided with Team GB’s Ollie Wood.
With just 39 laps remaining in the 200-lap race, Wood was forcefully thrown to the ground after his helmet was struck from behind by van Schip.
In the footage, the force of the collision left Wood sprawled across the velodrome boards. While television replays could not conclusively determine if the contact was deliberate, it looked severe and troubling.

Following the incident, the Dutch team was disqualified from the race.
According to the commissaires, Van Schip was fined 1,000 CHF (£720) for ‘improper conduct and behavior that endangers another rider’.
This decision came amid controversy. Addionally, the Netherlands’ own Jack Carlin had recently been criticized by Dutch fans for a previous maneuver in the individual sprint.

Ollie Wood, 28, described feeling like a “crash test dummy” after the crash.
He required a concussion assessment at the trackside before continuing the race. He ultimately finished 10th alongside Mark Stewart. Addionally, Stewart had been called up at the last minute due to Ethan Hayter’s injury.
Wood expressed uncertainty about the crash. He mentioned that he had no idea how it happened and felt it was an unexpected and severe impact.
He said: ‘I’ve not watched it back. I’m trying to catch my breath. I have no clue, absolutely no clue. All I know is I got hit really hard from behind by literally the biggest rider on the track.
‘I don’t know what I have done but my knee really hurts and my a*** really hurts.
‘I feel like I’ve been rear-ended by a lorry.’ He added.
Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, it had a minimal impact on the overall standings. Additionally, Team GB was already out of contention for the podium.
