Kanye West, a famous musician, has recently made a bold demand for the music industry. He insists on being referred to as 'Ye' instead of his former moniker, claiming it to be a 'slave name'.

This announcement has captured the public's attention and ignited discussions on social media platforms.

Kanye West insists on being called 'Ye' by the music industry.

In a letter written by Kanye West's chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, emphasized the significance of referring to the artist as 'Ye.' 

The letter stated that Ye is a highly recognizable figure, comparable to presidents and popes. 

It further highlighted that the decision to change his name was made fully, legally, and permanently, indicating the significance and gravity of this shift.

Yiannopoulos called upon various entities in the music industry, including streaming platforms, publishers, stores, unions, lyrics websites, and data resellers, to adopt the musician's new name, 'Ye.'

These entities were identified as some of the most visible platforms where the change should take effect.

The letter also mentioned that Kanye West himself has referred to his former name as a 'slave name' and asserted that Ye, as a black man in America, seeks the right to full self-determination, just like everyone else.

The request for a name change comes after Kanye West's legal name change was approved by a Los Angeles judge in August 2021.

Several personal reasons led to Kanye's name change.

The artist claimed that the name change was due to personal reasons which led to his decision to embrace the name, 'Ye.'

In an interview, he explained that 'Ye' holds significant meaning in the Bible, translating to 'you.'

Some argue that individuals should have the autonomy to choose their own identities, while others question the motivations and implications behind the request.
