On May 6, Donald Trump met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House, following Carney’s election win on April 28.

Trump welcomed Carney warmly, offering praise for what he described as “a beautiful, perfect win” in the Canadian general election.

Lip reader Nicola Hickling, speaking for Slingo, analyzed the exchange and claimed Trump instructed Carney.

According to Hickling, he said: “Just turn your face and wave over there.”

According to Hickling, Carney complied without hesitation, following Trump’s cue while smiling and engaging with onlookers nearby.

Trump reportedly added a polite “thank you” to those gathered. Later Trump turned to VP JD Vance, saying, “I admire him.”

Body language expert Beth Dawson reviewed the same interaction.

She offered an intriguing interpretation of the leaders’ gestures and posture.

She said Carney showed “assertiveness” but also gave off “a subtle note of submission” in the early moments of the meeting.

Carney’s elbow touch suggested a desire to create an equal connection. At the same time, he remained respectful and slightly cautious in his presence.

“The elbow touch, however, shows that he wants to establish connection on equal terms. His expression is one of determination. Carney is not passive, but he is also careful not to come across as overly forceful and he does seem slightly intimidated,” she added.

Trump, meanwhile, demonstrated “an unmistakable display of dominance,” which she said continued as they walked into the Oval Office together.

Trump joked about Canada becoming America’s 51st state

While inside, Trump reportedly couldn’t resist bringing up his infamous suggestion.

The US president said that Canada could become America’s “51st cherished state.”

Carney said: “As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale.

“Having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign in the last several months, it’s not for sale. Won’t be for sale, ever.”

Still, Trump responded in typical fashion, brushing off the rejection with: “I say, never say never.”

The two leaders maintained a cordial tone in front of cameras, downplaying the recent trade tensions between the U.S. and Canada.
