For nearly a decade, Jean Van Landeghem, a resident of Antwerp, has been receiving regular pizza deliveries, sometimes as many as 14 in one day.
However, there's a twist – Jean has never actually placed an order for pizza. He only buys chilled pizzas from his local Aldi.
The 65-year-old recalls that the mysterious deliveries began nine years ago when a pizza delivery person arrived at his door with a surplus of pizzas, despite him not having placed any orders.
He said, 'Suddenly, a pizza delivery man handed me a whole load of pizzas – but I hadn’t ordered anything.'
Initially, he attributed it to a simple delivery mix-up.
However, to this day, the influx of takeout deliveries has not ceased. These deliveries originate from a wide variety of nearby fast-food outlets.
In January 2019, he was shocked when 10 different delivery men showed up at his house, with one of them carrying 14 pizzas.
Jean recounts that the relentless influx of pizzas has significantly disrupted his life. He mentioned that he couldn't sleep due to the fear that someone would come to drop off hot pizzas yet again. He always turns the delivery drivers away to ensure he isn't charged for these unwanted deliveries.
However, he knows that the takeaways are wasting money on all these unwanted pizzas and kebabs because he never requested any of them.
He said: “I cannot sleep anymore. I start shaking every time I hear a scooter on the street. I live in fear that someone will come to drop off hot pizzas yet again”
“It costs them money and they have to throw the food away. On the day that 10 deliveries showed up, I did the maths: it cost €450,” Jean said.
However, Jean's story is not unique, as he is not the first person to experience these baffling deliveries. A friend of his residing in a different Flanders town, approximately 15 miles away, has also fallen prey to these phantom pizzas.
What's even more perplexing is that they sometimes both receive these deliveries on the same day. His friend said, “Sometimes we both get them on the same day."
