This place was once a grand project worth $107 million that promised to be a modern urban hub.

Forest City was launched in 2016 with high hopes.

The developers aimed to create a luxurious living space with modern infrastructure and an eco-friendly environment.

The city was designed to attract wealthy buyers, especially from China.

It was supposed to offer stunning apartments, parks, and various amenities, making it a desirable place to live.

Despite the initial excitement, things did not go as planned.

Several factors contributed to the downfall of Forest City.

One major issue was the property crisis in China that began in 2017.

This crisis affected many developments, both in China and abroad, leading to a decline in investment in projects like Forest City.

Moreover, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia imposed new visa restrictions for Chinese buyers.

This decision was made to prevent the city from becoming a foreign enclave, which created significant challenges for the developers.

With high prices and fewer buyers, many units remained unsold and vacant.

During his exploration, Ben Morris found the luxurious apartments to be surprisingly well-designed.

The buildings featured private entrances, beautiful balconies with views, and amenities like swimming pools and gyms.

It was evident that a lot of money had been spent on creating a high-quality living space.

However, the emptiness of the city was striking. Morris described the atmosphere as eerie, with many buildings standing unused.

He noted that despite the impressive features, the lack of people made the environment feel lonely and abandoned.

Morris also spoke to a former resident, Nazmi Hanafiah, an IT engineer who had lived in Forest City for six months.

Nazmi shared his experience, expressing disappointment with the area.

He mentioned that he left because he felt isolated and there was nothing to do.

His feelings echoed the sentiments of many who had high expectations for the city but found it lacking in community and activities.

“I managed to escape this place,”

“I didn’t care about my deposit or my money. Tbh, I just had to get out.

“I’m getting goosebumps just being back. It’s lonely around here – it’s just you and your thoughts.”

He added: “To be honest, it’s creepy. I had high expectations for this place, but it was such a bad experience. There is nothing to do here.”
