A man won $50 million in the lottery but surprised everyone by waking up early to go back to work the following week.
Pierre Richer, a man from Québec, won an incredible $50 million in the Lotto Max lottery.
People might think that after such a big win, he would take a long vacation or quit his job.
However, Pierre chose to do something surprising. He woke up at 4:30 AM the week after winning and went back to work.
Man wins $50 million during a visit at a grocery store
Pierre received the news of his big win on Friday, October 6.
Before he bought the winning lottery ticket, Pierre was shopping for Thanksgiving supplies with his daughter.
They went to a grocery store called Super C because they heard that pie crusts were on sale.
While his daughter went inside to get the pie crust, Pierre purchased two lottery tickets, which only cost him $10.
If it weren’t for that pie crust sale, he might not have bought the tickets at all.
“With the pie crust being on sale at the Super C, my daughter went in to get it and I got the ticket,” Pierre said.
The next day, Pierre’s daughter and wife checked the lottery numbers.
They were excited to discover that Pierre had won. However, Pierre’s reaction was quite calm.
He said, “I was a little happy. But, you know, I just left the room and that was it.”
For him, winning the lottery did not change much in his day-to-day life.

While many people would celebrate with a trip or a big party, Pierre returned to his job on Monday morning.
He works as a driver and head of shipping at a catering company.
He felt it was important to not leave his coworkers without support.
Pierre said, “I can’t leave them alone in the dark. Without me there, the shipping department is not feasible.”
It is impressive that Pierre decided to continue working despite winning such a large amount of money.
He is in his 60s, and he admits that his job does not pay very well. This makes his dedication even more admirable.
Pierre mentioned that he is not planning to retire just yet, but he will take some time to think about it.
Pierre did have some ideas about what to do with his winnings.
He mentioned wanting to buy a new house and a new car.
He joked that one of his dreams is to mow the lawn at his new house.
According to reports, Québec has been a lucky place for lottery winners.
Last year, Loto-Québec awarded a total of $1.5 billion to different winners.
