A man threw a hard drive containing 8,000 Bitcoins worth $190 million
James Howells, a man from Newport, Wales, has become the center of attention after accidentally throwing away a hard drive containing 8,000 Bitcoins back in 2013.
With the soaring value of Bitcoin over the years, those lost Bitcoins are now estimated to be worth a staggering $190 million.
Howells has turned to the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist him in locating the discarded hard drive.
On February 24, the value of 8,000 Bitcoins was around £322,597,667 ($409,021,599). However, the cryptocurrency rates are highly volatile and subject to change, so these numbers could easily fluctuate in the future.
Howells has faced numerous obstacles in his quest to locate the discarded hard drive.
His local council has been uncooperative, denying him access to the landfill site where the hard drive is believed to be buried.
However, Howells has utilized aerial photographs of the landfill site to narrow down the potential area of the hard drive to a 200-square-meter section.

To support his search, Howells plans to employ AI technology. He intends to transport the landfill debris to a unit equipped with an AI scanning system.
If the AI recognizes any objects resembling a hard drive, they will be flagged and removed. Howells estimates that it may take between nine to twelve months for the scanning system to complete its task.
Despite facing environmental concerns from the Newport Council regarding the excavation process, Howells assures that he will search in an environmentally friendly manner.
He has enlisted the help of experts in the excavation field and hopes that the council will permit him to proceed with his retrieval mission.
