Michelle Obama opens up about the difficult decision to skip President Trump’s inauguration, sharing her personal reasons behind it.
Michelle Obama has finally shared the reason behind her choice to skip Donald Trump’s inauguration in January.
In a recent episode of her podcast “IMO,” she discussed this difficult decision with her brother, Craig Robinson.
She revealed that despite facing public criticism, she believes it was the “right” choice for her.
Michelle Obama shares reasons behind skipping Trump’s inauguration ceremony in rare reflection
During the podcast, Michelle described her absence as a “hard” choice.
She admitted that she had to trick herself into not attending the ceremony.
To do this, she made sure she didn’t have a dress ready for the event.

She explained, “I was like, if I’m not going to do this thing, I’ve got to tell my team. I don’t even want to have a dress ready, right?”
“Let me do the right thing [and attend].”
Michelle felt that having a dress might tempt her to change her mind and attend the inauguration.
She wanted to avoid that pressure and stay true to her feelings.
Michelle Obama addressed speculation about her decision
When Michelle chose not to attend, many people speculated about her reasons.
Some suggested that her marriage with Barack Obama might be in trouble.
Michelle addressed these rumors directly, stating, “People couldn’t believe that I was saying no for any other reason.”

She emphasized that her decision was personal and not related to her relationship with her husband.
“They had to assume that my marriage was falling apart.
“It took everything in my power to not do the thing that was perceived as right, but do the thing that was right for me. That was a hard thing for me to do,” she continued.
She inspires young women to empower.
Michelle believes her decision serves as an example for young women everywhere.
She encouraged them to practice finding their own voices and saying no when necessary.
“This is about showing young women out there to start practicing different strategies for saying no,” she stated.
Michelle also discussed her pressure to show her love for her country.

She remarked, “After all that I’ve done in this world, if I still have to show people that I love my country, then I’m just keeping that crazy bar that our mothers and grandmothers set for us.”
She feels a strong obligation to stand against hypocrisy and contradictions in society.
Despite her absence from the inauguration, Michelle remains proud of her accomplishments and her role as a mother to daughters Malia and Sasha.
She continues to advocate for authenticity and integrity in her actions.
Michelle Obama also addressed rumors about her marriage
While Michelle has focused on her personal choices, Barack Obama has continued to engage with public life.
The couple has been married for over 32 years and has faced many ups and downs together.
Recently, Barack spoke about their relationship and how they try to enjoy fun activities together.

He acknowledged the challenges that come with being in the spotlight.
Despite the rumors surrounding their marriage, Michelle affirmed that they are still strong as a couple.
She explained that when their decisions do not fit societal stereotypes, they are often viewed negatively.
However, she remains committed to being true to herself and her values.
“If [our decisions don’t] fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible,” she said last week.
