This rate was later increased to 54 percent, marking a significant rise. This increase was referred to as “Liberation Day” by Trump.

In response, China reacted strongly. The Chinese government quickly imposed its own tariffs on American goods.

These included a 15 percent tariff on US farm products and 10 percent on crude oil and machinery.

The situation escalated further when China raised its tariffs on US imports to 84 percent.

This statement surprised many observers, as Trump has been known for his tough stance on trade issues.

His comments suggest he may be open to negotiations with China, which could lead to a different strategy in the future.

Relationship between the US and China

Despite the ongoing tension, Trump mentioned that he maintains a “very good relationship” with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

This is significant, as many expected Trump to take a hardline approach in talks with China.

“But ultimately, they have to make a deal, because otherwise they’re not going to be able to deal in the United States, and we want them involved.”

“I think we’re going to live together very happily and ideally work together, so I think it’s going to work out very well.”
