Donald Trump has revealed the consequences for the individual who leaked US war plans to a journalist in a group chat.
President Donald Trump recently addressed a serious situation involving leaked military plans.
This incident occurred when a journalist was accidentally added to a private group chat with high-ranking officials.
The group included national security adviser Mike Waltz and other senior members of the government.
A journalist accidentally added to the group chat
The journalist in question is Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic.
He was unintentionally included in a confidential chat where key military strategies were discussed.

Goldberg reportedly saw sensitive information, including details about military targets and the weapons the U.S. would deploy.
This happened just hours before military actions were set to take place.
Goldberg received a message from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on March 15, which confirmed his presence in the chat.
It was later revealed that a member of Waltz’s team mistakenly added Goldberg to the conversation.

Trump, in a phone interview with NBC News, stated that this was merely a mistake and that Waltz is a “good man.”
“Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man.”
Despite the severity of the leak, Trump expressed confidence in Waltz’s capabilities and suggested that the error would not lead to any punishment.

He mentioned that the incident was a minor glitch in an otherwise smooth operation over the past two months.
Trump stated that Goldberg’s presence in the chat did not affect the military operation in any way.
The news outlet asked Trump how the journalist was accidentally added to the secure chat, and he replied: “It was one of Michael’s people on the phone. A staffer had his number on there.”
He seemed rather unfazed by the whole thing, in fact, and that the mishap was ‘the only glitch in two months, and it turned out not to be a serious one’.”
Press secretary supports Trump’s statements
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s sentiments.
She reassured the public that the President has full confidence in his national security team, including Waltz.

The administration views the situation as a learning experience rather than a major crisis.
“President Trump continues to have the utmost confidence in his national security team, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz,” she said.
Journalist’s reaction to the situation
Goldberg remained in the group chat for a few days before realizing he was not meant to be there.
He eventually left the chat and contacted Waltz to clarify the situation.
Brian Hughes, a spokesman for the National Security Council, responded to Goldberg, confirming that the message chain was authentic and that they were investigating how he was added.

His message read: “This appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.
The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials.
The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to troops or national security.”
