Trump expresses desire for Musk to remain in his administration, while hinting that DOGE may have uncovered something troubling.
President Donald Trump recently expressed his desire for Elon Musk to stay in his administration for as long as possible.
This statement came during a conversation with reporters aboard Air Force One.
Trump praised Musk for his contributions and hinted at some troubling discoveries made by the DOGE team, which Musk leads.

President Trump says he wants to keep Musk in his administration for “as long as possible”
Trump was very clear about his support for Musk. He stated, “I want Elon to stay as long as possible.”
The president provided several reasons for his admiration.
“Number one: I like him. Number two: He’s doing a great job. Number three: He is a patriot,” the president said.
Musk holds the title of the unofficial head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
His role involves finding ways to cut costs and improve government operations. However, his time in this position is limited due to federal regulations.

Time limit for special government employees
Musk will see his special government employee status expire at the end of May.
According to federal rules, special government employees can only serve for 130 consecutive days.
This means Musk will likely have his last day in this role on May 30 unless changes are made.
Despite this timeline, Trump indicated that he is not in a hurry for Musk to leave.

He acknowledged that Musk has many responsibilities with his companies, such as Tesla and SpaceX.
However, the president also mentioned that Musk is welcome to stay as long as he wishes.
“We’re in no rush, but there will be a point in time in which Elon’s going to have to leave,” Trump said.
Plans for government efficiency will continue after Musk leaves.
When asked about plans for Musk’s departure, Trump noted that there will be a transition after Musk leaves.
He assured reporters that the efforts to root out waste and inefficiency in government would continue.
Trump mentioned that his Cabinet secretaries would take over the work done by Musk and his team.
The president expressed confidence in the abilities of Musk’s team. He believes many of them will move into permanent positions within federal agencies.

This transition aims to ensure that the work of DOGE continues even after Musk’s exit.
“We have a lot of smart people,” Trump said of Musk’s team. “A lot of those people, I believe, are going to go into the agencies and then work on it from the inside.”
Trump hinted at troubling discoveries by the DOGE team
During his remarks, Trump hinted at some significant findings made by the DOGE team.
He described what they discovered as “horrible” but did not provide specific details.
“[DOGE] found something today that’s horrible. It’s horrible — you’ll find out very soon, Trump teased.
“What they found is incredible, and we give [Musk] a lot of credit. He’s got some very smart people.”
