A Queensland family has left their community stunned after capturing footage of a 16-foot python gracefully slithering across their home's roof.

A monstrous python was filmed making its escape into the trees from the top of a house belonging to a Queensland family.

Captured on video, the snake was seen retreating into the trees from the pinnacle of a house located several meters above the ground, all while a Queensland family watched with a mix of apprehension and fascination.

During the footage, a child bursts into tears upon catching sight of the huge reptile as it turns its head in the direction of the family. In an attempt to console her, a man encourages her to 'be brave.'

As the snake lifts its tail off the roof and pauses to observe the spectators from a tall conifer, one woman comments, 'That is feral.' Another person chimes in, 'They're freaky, aren't they?' The python then proceeds to move toward a second tree.

The incredible sight attracted many oohs and awws, and even some colorful language from a family who happened to be enjoying their lunch at that moment and spotted a 16-foot python slithering across the roof of their home.

Curiosity emerged from a child who questioned, 'How will we get him away?' The woman then replied, 'We won’t.'

As the snake emerged from the tree and cast a quick glance toward the onlookers, an elderly lady couldn't help but exclaim, 'Oh, freaking sh*t.'

In the midst of this, a man appeared to be perturbed that it was interrupting their meal, commenting, 'Come on, your quiche is getting cold'.

At the end of the video, the python slithers from tree to tree, leaving the onlookers in awe of its balance and agility.

The footage was shared on TikTok, accompanied by the caption, 'Only in Australia will you see a 5-meter-long Carpet Snake in the suburbs.'

The video garnered a staggering 18.6 million views and over a million likes, sparking a range of humorous reactions from viewers across the clip.. 

One person said: Those things are dangerous. I didn't know they were native to Australia.

A second wrote: That's why Australia was never on my list of countries to visit

A third commented: Time to move! The snake can have the house... 

Someone else said: I can see how that might freak some people out.

That monster is higher than a single-storey house. It gives me goosebumps just by looking at the video. Another said. 

On its way to go and breed and lay its eggs in that nice warm roof space and tuck itself into the roof insulation! And when the youngsters grow up, some will return to that very same roof to carry on breeding. Enjoy. Someone else added.
