Raygun has stunned everyone by being ranked the world’s top breakdancer, even though she scored zero at the Paris Olympics.
In a surprising twist, Raygun, an Australian breakdancer, has been ranked as the world’s number one B-Girl by the World DanceSport Federation.
This ranking comes despite her receiving a score of zero at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Her performance, which went viral for all the wrong reasons, sparked considerable debate and controversy online.
Raygun caused controversy over her Olympic performance
Raygun, whose real name is Dr. Rachel Gunn, performed at the Olympics in a routine that quickly went viral, albeit for all the wrong reasons.
Her routine at the Olympics drew criticism for being ‘hilariously ridiculous.’
The 36-year-old Australian dancer’s performance included moves that resembled a snake slithering and a kangaroo hopping.
Despite her creative efforts, the judges awarded her a total of zero points.
The negative reaction led the World DanceSport Federation to offer mental health support to Raygun.
The backlash on social media was significant, with many viewers mocking her routine.
Raygun ranked as the world’s top breakdancer despite scoring zero in Paris Olympics
Despite this controversial performance, Raygun remains at the top of the World DanceSport Federation’s rankings.
Her high standing is due to a significant achievement in 2023.
At the time, she won the WDSF Oceania Championship in Sydney, which earned her 1,000 points.
This victory secured her spot at the Olympics.
The current rankings place Raygun as the number one B-Girl globally.
B-Girl Riko from Japan is second, Stefani from Ukraine is third, Holy Molly from Australia is fourth, and Hannah from Australia is in the top five.
Interestingly, the top three finishers in the Olympic B-Girl category—Ami from Japan, Dominika Banevič from Lithuania, and Liu Qingyi from China—are not on the World DanceSport Federation’s ranking list.
Despite their Olympic success, they did not make it into the Federation’s top rankings.
Furthermore, Raygun has signed up with the influencer marketing agency Born Bred Talent.
She plans to update her bio to include her new world number-one ranking.
The breakdancer is expected in the future
Raygun’s performance has captured significant media attention.
Despite her ranking, she has announced plans to step away from competitive breakdancing, stating she wishes to avoid the spotlight for a while.
In her interview with *The Project*, Raygun revealed that dancing had become a source of stress rather than joy.
She expressed hope to return to dancing in a more personal and enjoyable way.
“I don’t think I’ll be competing for a while. Not really wanting to be in the spotlight, breaking, competing,” she said on The Project.
“It’s been nice. It’s been a bit of a process to try and start dancing again. Like, that’s actually been tough.
You know, it was my medicine, and then it turned into my source of stress.
“So, I’m really happy that it gets to go back to being my medicine. I can kind of finally feel free again.
I’m looking forward to breaking, but, no, I don’t think I’ll compete for a while,” she admitted in the interview.
She has been seen with notable figures like Boy George and Richard Branson.
The breakdancer has caught the attention of the producers of *I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!*
