Serena Williams’ husband fiercely shuts down a controversial sports host amid an ongoing feud over the Super Bowl halftime show, sparking debate online.
Alexis Ohanian responds to Jason Whitlock’s criticism
Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, has fiercely defended her against Jason Whitlock. The controversial sports host criticized Williams for crip walking during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show.
Ohanian, a Reddit co-founder, did not hold back. He took to social media, calling out Whitlock’s negativity and personal attacks.
“I get it—you’re 57, and life didn’t turn out the way you imagined,” Ohanian wrote Tuesday night. “That kind of disappointment must be exhausting.”
He accused Whitlock of seeking validation from strangers. “Criticism only fuels your victim complex,” he continued. “It reinforces the delusion that there’s some grand conspiracy against you.”
Ohanian ended with a suggestion: “There’s still time to rewrite the ending—start by working on yourself first.”
Jason Whitlock’s initial criticism of Serena Williams
Whitlock criticized Williams for crip walking during Lamar’s performance. He claimed she deserved backlash and should have apologized.
The host called her dance “akin to cracking a tasteless joke inside a church.” Additionally, he argued that her moves were inappropriate given the song’s diss track nature toward rapper Drake, her ex.
Ohanian’s first response to the controversy
Before his lengthy post, Ohanian had already responded to Whitlock. He referenced past criticism Williams faced for crip walking at Wimbledon in 2012.
“Some of y’all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago,” Ohanian tweeted. “This is bigger than the music.”
Whitlock fires back at Ohanianb
Whitlock then took aim at Ohanian’s masculinity. He labeled him a “beta” and accused him of being a “simp.”
“This is Serena’s husband, a true beta,” Whitlock wrote. “He’s mad at me rather than the wife Crip walking and still thinking about Drake.”
Additionally, Ohanian’s three-paragraph response shut down the debate. He dismissed Whitlock’s comments as desperate and attention-seeking.
Whitlock attempted a final comeback. “What did Drake do to you that makes you take it out on me?” he asked.
However, the feud ended quietly after that remark.
Serena Williams explains her Super Bowl performance
Previously, Williams later addressed the controversy. She revealed Kendrick Lamar’s team personally invited her to join the performance.
“Kendrick’s team called and said, ‘We’ve been trying to do something forever,’” Williams shared. “They loved my crip walk at the Olympics after I won gold.”
She was thrilled by the opportunity. “Super Bowl? Are you serious?” she wrote. “When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a Super Bowl?”
For Williams, the moment was a full-circle experience. “I knew my winning dance after the Olympics would pay off one day,” she concluded. “End of story.”
