In a Florida neighborhood, a home unlike any other measures just 10-foot-wide and is listed for $619,000.
A 10-foot-wide ‘spite house’ in Florida
A two-story home in South Jacksonville Beach, Florida, is raising eyebrows with its narrow 10-foot width and price tag of $619,000.
Although it spans only 1,547 square feet—considerably smaller than the average 1,700-square-foot home in the area—the house’s unique design and story make it anything but ordinary.
This narrow property was built on a lot once used as a garden by a neighboring resident. When the builder proposed constructing a 15-foot-wide home, locals voiced their objections at a public hearing, eventually leading to restrictions that limited the width to just 10 feet.
Frustrated by these limitations, the builder reportedly constructed the home “out of spite.”
Listing agent Ryan Wetherhold shared with Business Insider, “What you can do on these smaller lots is you can go in front of a board of adjustment, and they’ll allow you to build more than the building code is allowed.”
Noting that the builder lost the vote to extend the lot, he added: “To be honest, the builder almost built this out of spite just because of that fact, ‘Oh, you don’t think we can build, hold my beer.'”

A unique house features smart space and design usage.
While narrow from the front, the property extends deep into the lot, creating a functional space with thoughtful design. The house includes:
– Two bedrooms
– 2.5 bathrooms
– A garage that fits one car
Additionally, much of the furniture is built-in, such as beds, a dining table, and bedside stands. This adds both convenience and a sense of style to the small layout.
The property also features a backyard that could be large enough for a pool, offering a surprising perk for potential buyers who want to maximize their outdoor space.
