Why are people disgusted by 'dermatologists' advice on how often you should shower per week?

People feel confused and pretty grossed out upon finding out how often some dermatologists recommend how often people should shower in a week

During a segment on Tuesday's show, The Today weatherman, Al Roker, along with his co-hosts Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones, welcomed Shop Today editorial director Adrianna Brach to discuss a new series about how often things should be cleaned, according to the Daily Mail report.

Brach surprised Roker, 68, when she asked him to guess how often dermatologists recommend people shower in a week.

On the show, a segment called 'How Often Should You?' Brach posed the question: "According to dermatologists, how often do you think you should shower per week?" The multiple-choice options were: "Every day, two to three times a week, five times a week, or once a week."

Dreyer guessed five times a week, while Roker and Jones were adamant that it should be every day.

'I don't care what they say. I'm going to say A, [every day],' added Roker.

However, Brach surprised the host when she revealed that they were all incorrect in their guesses, and dermatologists actually recommend people to shower 'two to three times' per week.

'What? There are seven days in the week,' Jones, 45, replied.

'Is that for kids or adults?'. 'Like adults smell.' Dreyer, 41, asked.

'The consensus is two to three times per week, but it does depend on the person. I’m looking at Al’s face like, "What is this?"' Brach said. 'It depends on the person, your lifestyle, your skin time, your age, your activity level, as well.'

Brach concluded by stating that the frequency of showering is ultimately a personal preference, but Roker disagreed, saying, "'Not if you come in contact with other people!' he hit back."

Then, she explained:

'You have this natural bacteria that lives all over your skin, it’s part of your microbiome, so you don’t want to compromise that because it does help to sort of protect you,'

She continued: 'Then there are people who have skin issues, dry skin, eczema, rosacea. All these factors come into play. When you’re scrubbing and using soap and harsh detergents — I can’t stop looking at Al — it could get a little dicey.'

However, Roker firmly stated that he has no plans to alter his daily shower routine, he said:  'I shower twice a day,'

One person commented: I agree with Al on this subject!! I just don’t think people shower enough or clean themselves. Everyone looks so dirty out there. Gross take a shower!!

Ugh! I say everyday, sometimes two times a day!  One person disagreed

Definitely every day. In summer sometimes twice a day. Someone said.

Another commented: Every other day in summer, every third day in winter. That’s not a hard and fast rule. Being retired allows for some flexibility.

2 to 3 x in the summer. After yard work...sitting in the bleachers watching rec sports. Especially before I get into bed. Someone else said.
