JonBenét was a six-year-old girl tragically murdered in 1996. Her body was found in her parents’ basement in Boulder, Colorado. An autopsy confirmed she died from strangulation.

However, three decades later, her case remains unsolved. Some internet users believe she never actually died. Instead, they claim she grew up to become Katy Perry.

Where did the theory originate?

This conspiracy theory has been around for over a decade. It first gained traction in 2014. A viral seven-minute video titled *JonBenét Ramsey is singer Katy Perry* introduced the idea.

The video suggested JonBenét’s death was staged. It claimed her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were actually Perry’s real parents.

The supposed motive? To allow JonBenét to rise to fame under a new identity.

More recently, AI-generated videos have fueled the theory.

The footage showed JonBenét’s face morphing into Perry’s, emphasizing their physical similarities.

Some suggested that Katy Perry could be JonBenét Ramsey nearly 30 years after her unsolved murder. However, others dismissed the theory as absurd. Some also pointed out the differences between Katy Perry and JonBenét Ramsey.

One person said: maybe if they worked this hard to find her killer with nobody paying for the death of that beautiful baby.

A second wrote: If they want to claim she is someone actually missing they could say she is Madeline McCain.

While a third commented: Hummmm Katie born 1984 & JonBenét Ramsey born 1990. Not a match.

Another added: To begin with, who the hell cuts their bangs this damn short? If she’s anybody , she’s Zoey Deschanels, long lost sister, they look like they’re related.

What ‘evidence’ do theorists use?

Supporters of the theory point to alleged facial similarities. They compare Perry’s bone structure to JonBenét’s, focusing on their eyebrows, jaws, and noses.

Another piece of supposed evidence comes from a 2011 *Vanity Fair* interview. Perry said: “Not that I was one of those stage kids. There was no JonBenét Ramsey inside of me waiting to burst out.”

Some theorists believe this was a cryptic confession. Others argue she was simply stating she had a different childhood experience.

Katy Perry responded to the theory

Despite police statements confirming JonBenét’s death, the theory gained traction online. Many social media users have entertained the idea.

In 2022, one person tweeted: “Before we end 2022, I just wanna say that JonBenét Ramsey is actually Katy Perry.”

Another Twitter user attempted to provide proof, writing: “Why we know that Katy Perry is JonBenét Ramsey, a thread.”

Perry herself acknowledged the theory. She responded to an AI-generated video with a simple comment: “wait am i.”

Despite its popularity, the theory has major flaws. Police confirmed JonBenét’s death in 1996. No credible evidence suggests she survived.
