A woman named Sumaya Thomas, 18, from North Liberty, Iowa, took drastic measures to get out of a date with a man she met online.
Instead of simply canceling the date, she decided to call the police on him in the middle of the night and fabricate a story about him being an abusive ex-boyfriend who was threatening her.

Thomas and the man had matched on a dating app and made plans to meet up. However, just before the date, Thomas 'got cold feet' and didn't want to go through with it.
Rather than be upfront and cancel, she called 911 around 12:30 AM on June 16th.
She falsely claimed the man, who was at her doorstep, was her abusive ex-boyfriend who she was pregnant with. Thomas said he was threatening to hit, punch, kick, and stab her over text.
When police arrived, the man was walking away from the house. He explained to the officers that he had only met Thomas a week prior on the dating app and showed them their text conversation which corroborated his story.
Despite this, Thomas maintained her false claims, saying she had known the man for two years and that he had been abusive towards her.
After repeated questioning, Thomas eventually admitted she had lied about the entire situation.
She confessed she had just 'got cold feet' and didn't want to go on the date, so she made up the story to get the police to make the man leave.
Thomas told the officers she didn't think they would have helped her if she had just explained the real reason.
The innocent man was held by police for over an hour due to Thomas' false accusations.
She was then charged with two misdemeanor counts of False Report of Indictable Offense to the Public Entity, as well as one count of Falso Report - 911 call. Thomas was released from the Johnson County Jail after her arrest.
In another case, a woman left shocked when a fake coworker reported her absence from work, leading to a visit from the police and a social worker to her home for a wellness check.
Even though the woman worked from home and regularly participated in Zoom meetings and communicated with her colleagues, the police were called by someone who was not even an employee of her company.
The woman was disturbed to discover that the person who had requested the wellness check was not a real employee.
She searched the company directory but could not find any trace of the individual's name. Fortunately, the police and social worker eventually left after confirming the woman was safe and sound.
This incident left the woman baffled and concerned about the motives behind this distressing act. In a follow-up video, the woman revealed she had contacted the police herself to further investigate the matter.
Eventually, the woman discovered that there was someone else in her neighborhood who shared her name, which likely explained the mix-up and the reason for the fake coworker report leading to the police visit to her home.
