Mikayla met her husband, Samuel Herrmann, at a church event in 2017.

Their connection was immediate, leading to a quick engagement and marriage just a year later.

She shared: “I was always looking forward to meeting my husband and becoming a housewife because that’s what I’ve always seen women in my life do and what I’ve always wanted to do.

“My mum and [my husband’s] mum have done the same thing, our grandparents have done the same thing.

We’re probably the fifth or sixth generation of homemaking wives.

“We had always known that once we got married that [my husband] was going to be the provider for me and I would be the stay-at-home wife and take care of everything around the home.”

Now, Samuel works as a blacksmith machinery company boss, while Mikayla handles the day-to-day activities at home, including cooking, cleaning, and tending to their farm.

Her daily routine is full and demanding.

Mikayla starts her day very early, especially in the spring and summer, to take care of various chores on the farm.

This includes milking goats, preparing the garden, and managing livestock.

She emphasizes the importance of cooking meals from scratch, which she finds rewarding and fulfilling.

Mikayla prepares breakfast, lunch, and dinner for Samuel, ensuring that he has homemade meals ready when he returns from work.

Despite the hard work involved in her role, Mikayla expresses joy in serving her husband.

She believes that it is her responsibility to create a welcoming home environment for Samuel.

She mentions that she often spends over an hour preparing meals to ensure everything is ready for his arrival.

Mikayla feels that her efforts are a reflection of her love and dedication to their marriage.

“I definitely feel like it is my duty to serve my husband and for him to be the breadwinner of my house.”

Mikayla added: “But he is such a kind person that he will never be frustrated at me if I’m having a bad day

and I’m not able to get food on the table whenever he walks through the door.”

The traditional wife faces criticism and negative comments

While Mikayla loves her life as a homemaker, she has faced backlash and negative comments on social media.

Some people have labeled her as “lazy” or “oppressed,” assuming that her choice is a result of societal pressure rather than personal conviction.

However, Mikayla strongly disagrees with these characterizations.

She insists that her decision to stay at home is entirely her choice, emphasizing that her husband has never forced her to take on this role.

“It’s mostly just comments about being lazy and that I sit at home and let my husband take care of everything and I’m not doing anything that’s fulfilling here.

“But this is really the most fulfilled I have ever felt because it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.”
