Manicure is popular with many women, but it also carries a potential risk of infection.

In a surprising event, a young woman from Oregon has taken legal action against a nearby nail salon, demanding $1.75 million in compensation.

She alleges that she contracted herpes after getting her nails done at the salon, which has caused her great distress and agony.

Since June 2023, she has been enduring persistent hand pain and recurrent outbreaks as a result of the incident.

The unidentified woman stated that she went to the salon for a regular beauty treatment at PDX Nails in Portland.

After the manicure, her fingers became swollen and inflamed, and her overall health started to decline.

Four days later, she developed painful blisters on her skin, prompting her to seek medical help. It was during this visit that she received a diagnosis of genital herpes.

The legal action was initiated in Multnomah County Circuit Court in Portland, where the lawsuit asserts that the salon is responsible for the infection due to negligence.

The plaintiff argues that the technician failed to wear gloves during the procedure, which could have prevented the transmission of any potential infections.

Furthermore, it is claimed that the salon stored nail drill bits in a mint tin, a practice that raises additional concerns about hygiene standards.

She now experiences regular pain and discomfort, necessitating the use of band-aids to cover the sores on her fingers.

Additionally, she worries that the infection may never be fully eliminated and that she will have to exercise caution in future pregnancies, as herpes can remain dormant in the body for extended periods.

Tam Nguyen, identified as the salon manager, and Hai Nguyen, listed as the salon owner, have been named as defendants in the lawsuit.

However, they have not provided any comments in response to the allegations.

What is Herpes?

Herpes is typically transmitted through sexual contact, but it can also spread through contact with contaminated surfaces.

The virus can cause painful blisters, fever, swelling, and muscle aches.

If left untreated, the infection can lead to more severe symptoms and interfere with daily activities such as eating, drinking, and speaking.

This case is not the first case in which people contracted herpes after getting their nails.

Similar incidents have resulted in compensation for victims in the past.

In 2002, a woman in Colorado received $3.1 million in compensation after getting herpes from an unclean manicure.

Similarly, in 2021, a woman in Florida was granted $1.75 million after an infection caused her to undergo leg amputation.

These cases emphasize the significance of enforcing high hygiene standards in nail salons to prevent the transmission of infections.
