At noon on Wednesday, during the world feed of BBC News, a BBC news anchor left viewers shocked after she was caught giving the middle finger to the camera live on air.

The incident occurred when Maryam Moshir, a BBC news host, showed the Prime Minister's Questions with title headlines delivered from London.

The shocking moment caught the camera live, showing Maryam raising her eyebrows and flipping off the camera as she came on-screen after the program.

Then, Maryam Moshir, 46, realized she was currently live on air. She immediately pulled her hand back and continued to read the bulletin with a serious demeanor. She said, "Live from London, this is BBC News.".

This morning, she took to social media to extend an apology. The post was shared on Twitter; she explained that she 'did not realize' the moment would be captured on camera and conveyed her regret if it caused offense or upset to anyone.

The post read: "Hey everyone, yesterday, just before the top of the hour, I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery. I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0, including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers held up to one. When we got to 1, I turned my finger around as a joke and did not realize that this would be caught on camera."

"It was a private joke with the team, and I’m so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen, and I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone. I wasn’t 'flipping the bird’ at viewers or even a person. It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my friends."
