People Divided Over Employee Health Insurance On Restaurant Bill

As usual, eating out could lead to paying a high tax and tip, as many servers make their money from tips.

However, a new mandatory charge listed on the customer's bill has generated divided opinions about whether this fee is fair to customers and employees.

Some offer their theories that employee health insurance must be paid by the employer rather than the customers.

Given that they're charging as a percentage based on the meal cost, and health insurance is a fixed rate per month per employee, one user insisted after calculating the apparent cost.

Next: Property tax fee - 8%, Utility fee - 3%", CEO bonus fee - 22%, Double profit fee - 200%, the second joked.

I don't know why I have to pay for employee health insurance while I have struggled to pay for myself and my family as well. It was supposed to be paid by the employer, another asked.

This is so crazy, the tipping and now a new one called "employee health insurance," someone wrote.

Otherwise, some claimed this mandatory fee was enough to solve the tipping problems.

That's fair, 5% less tip, problem solved, one user affirmed.

I'd gladly pay an extra 5 dollars on all of my transaction [sic] totals in this country if it gave people health care, the second replied.

Some even claim that employee health insurance fee has been listed on the restaurant's menu and website since its opening.

Restaurant Response To Employee Health Insurance

The Chicago Eatery emphasized that the restaurant has split the insurance premium into thirds, with the employer and employees each footing a third of the bill, and the remaining will be compensated by 2% of the customer's total bill to make up the total cost.
