An expert has clarified the audio release from the Titan sub, explaining its importance months after the tragic implosion.
Months after the Titan sub tragically imploded during a dive to the Titanic wreck site, new audio footage has surfaced.
An expert has recently provided insights into this audio, clarifying its significance and implications.
After the Titan sub disaster, a recent hearing has clarified the audio recordings that were released months after the incident.
The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation is holding this hearing to uncover details about the catastrophic implosion.
The incident occurred during a dive into the Titanic wreck on June 18, 2023.
The Titan submersible, operated by OceanGate, tragically lost contact with its support vessel, the Polar Prince, just one hour and 45 minutes into its descent.
The five people aboard the Titan included CEO Stockton Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, businessman Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman.
They were never heard from again after the implosion.
Their disappearance prompted a massive search operation.
The search eventually located the Titan’s wreckage, confirming that all five had died.
Expert clarifies about audio release from Titan sub months later its tragical implosion
During the hearing, former OceanGate contractor Tym Catterson addressed the audio recorded by the Canadian Air Force shortly after the Titan went missing.
This audio, which captured sounds transmitted every 30 minutes, raised questions about the events leading up to the disaster.
Catterson noted that if such sounds occur repeatedly, it indicates that they are likely generated by human actions, rather than random environmental factors.
He said: “If it happens more than once or it happens consistently, it’s something that humans are doing.”
“Clearly, somebody knew what they were doing and I was assuming they were going to know more than I did,” he added.
He noted the intense atmosphere around the incident, with many people being tired and anxious.
This led to various theories about what happened.
Despite the uncertainty, Catterson believed that the people handling the situation were skilled and knowledgeable.
Titan sub victims’ final words were also revealed during the hearing
The audio recordings are significant as they potentially provide insights into the final moments of the Titan’s mission.
Communication between the Titan and the Polar Prince was crucial, as crew members on the support vessel repeatedly sought confirmation that the Titan was still operational.
The Titan’s last message was reassuring, stating that “all good,” but this was soon followed by a loss of contact.
The chairman of the hearing, Jason Neubauer, emphasized the importance of these proceedings.
“Over the past 15 months, our team has worked continuously, in close coordination with multiple federal agencies, international partners, and industry experts to uncover the facts surrounding this incident,” he said.
The goal is to understand the factors contributing to the incident and to prevent future tragedies.
“These proceedings are not just a formality,” he emphasized.
He also indicated that if any misconduct or negligence is found, recommendations would be made to the Department of Justice.
