The video has the caption: “A newly released video shows the exact moment of the impact of Delta Connection flight 4819 at YYZ”
The video showed the terrifying moment Flight 4819 touched down. The back of the aircraft erupted into flames and smoke upon landing.
While, the plane skidded down the runway, leaving a thick trail of smoke behind it.
The video quickly went viral and sparked debate
On social media, many viewers expressed shock that there were no fatalities.
Meanwhile, others also felt panic about airplane safety.
One person said: How the hell did this guy capture this exact moment on this exact day, is he just constantly filming planes landing during his workday?
A second wrote: Not a pilot. But when I look at that video, I see the plane pitching a bit to the right as it lands. It first touches the ground on the right tire. Is that imbalance enough to cause this crash?
While a third commented: Goodness… this must be one of the craziest things seen.
Someone else said: That is insane! So glad everyone survived!
Another added: Was the pilot fresh off a carrier before starting at Delta??
Multiple injuries reported, including three critical cases
Eighteen people were hospitalized following the crash. Three victims, including a child, a woman in her 40s, and a man in his 60s, suffered critical injuries.
Medical transport company Ornge confirmed that emergency teams responded quickly to the scene. Officials have not yet released the identities of the injured passengers.
Air traffic control warned of dangerous conditions before crash
A recorded conversation from ‘LiveATC.net’ reveals the pilots were warned about difficult landing conditions.
An air traffic controller instructed the pilots: “Endeavor Air 4819, turn right heading 210. Descend to 3,000. Cleared ILS 23 approach.”
The pilot acknowledged the instructions but was then warned of strong winds. “Winds measuring 27, gusts 33. Cleared to land Runway 23. You may get a slight bump,” the controller said.
Shortly after, air traffic control confirmed the crash, calling for immediate emergency response.
After the incident, officials launched an investigation into the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is working with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada to investigate the incident.
“The NTSB is leading a team of U.S. investigators to assist with the investigation,” the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated.
While, Delta CEO Ed Bastian also released a statement: “The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto Pearson International Airport.”
He expressed gratitude to first responders and Delta team members assisting with the aftermath.
The Delta Airlines crash in Toronto could have been far worse. The footage of the landing highlights how close the situation was to disaster. As the investigation continues, officials aim to determine the cause and prevent future incidents.
