According to CNN, the secret rooms on long-haul flights are provided to flight staff to ensure they have the best chance of getting some sleep.

A source from CNN revealed that these secret rooms include padded mattresses, linens, lights, and air conditioning. In newer planes, the bedrooms are often above the main cabin, whereas older planes have them closer to the hold.

However, passengers never see these rooms because they are always well-hidden from view.

Some aircraft don’t have full beds but only recliners shrouded by thick curtains that block out light and some noise. “We’ve had passengers open the curtains, looking for something or thinking they’d be going into the galley, so it’s not necessarily the best rest,” Carr said.

Karoliina, a flight attendant, explained the resting rules on long-haul flights to CNN.

Karoliina revealed that 10 percent of the time on a flight longer than six hours is allocated for resting, which amounts to about an hour and a half.

This rest period is crucial, as Finnair flight attendant Karoliina Åman explains. During this time, flight attendants do not attend to passenger calls; they focus solely on resting.
