Oscars viewers accused Downey Jr. of ignoring Ke Huy Quan while accepting Oscar
Viewers of the Oscars have been voicing criticism towards Robert Downey Jr. for what appears to be him ignoring Ke Huy Quan while receiving his Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Quan, who won his first Oscar last year in the same category as Downey for "Everything Everywhere All at Once," was one of the five presenters at this year's ceremony.
In the video, which was shared on social media, viewers were shocked after witnessing the moment Downey ignored Ke Huy Quan on the Oscar stage.
The viral video showed that Downey seemed to casually take his award from Quan. However, Downey was then seen approaching actor and director Tim Robbins to shake hands.
Afterward, the 58-year-old doubled back to give a fist bump to Sam Rockwell, who was standing between Robbins and Quan.
Although Quan briefly stepped forward as Downey circled back, he returned to his position when Downey engaged with Rockwell.
It's worth noting that Quan, Robbins, and Rockwell were all presenters, but only Quan announced Downey Jr.'s name and handed him the statue. Downey also did not interact with Mahershala Ali or Christoph Waltz, the other two presenters.
In the footage, onlookers see that Downey and Quan didn't even make eye contact.
In the shared footage, when Downey arrived on stage to collect the statuette from Quan, there appeared to be very little interaction between them.
Notably, there was no typical handshake, and many online observers pointed out that Downey Jr. didn't even make eye contact with Quan after accepting the award.
Instead, the 58-year-old actor exchanged handshakes with Tim Robbins and fist-bumped Sam Rockwell, leaving several onlookers disappointed.
