Maverick was only skin and bones when Joey Maxwell and his wife found him in a kill shelter.
They adopted him, and Mav became a part of their family, spending 6 happy years together.
So, a few years ago, when their beloved dog was diagnosed with lymphoma, Maxwell did everything he could to help his four-legged friend fight cancer - and the first round of chemotherapy was successful.
However, two months ago, the disease recurred and left Mav unable to walk. That's when the owner decided to take him on a horse-drawn carriage ride.
What started as an effort to make Mav's last days as happy as possible turned out to have a remarkable impact on his health.
But the rides brought so much joy to Maverick that they had an incredible healing effect!
According to Maxwell, "Once we took him out, he would bark at everyone who passed by and wanted them to come over and pet him because he believed that the whole world existed to love him."
As a result, when Maverick is seen around town, people in Maxwell's small community recognize him and come over to express their affection for the dog.
After sharing his story, Maxwell was given a 50% discount on a carriage ride, and both he and the cashier at Lowe's began to cry.
Maxwell and his wife say that Maverick means the world to them, and they are overwhelmed by the support of the community.
Maverick is feeling the love: he can now even sit up on his own and gets healthier every day
