A student had a unique way to save money by traveling to class by plane instead of renting a house in the city.

In an amazing event, a student has astounded people by choosing to take a one-hour flight to attend classes instead of renting a house in the city.

This unconventional approach to saving money as soaring rental prices skyrocketed in recent years.

According to reports, in Vancouver, Canada, the median rent has reached almost $3,000 per month, and finding affordable housing has become a challenge.

Understanding the high cost of renting in the city, Tim Chen, a student at the University of British Columbia (UBC), came up with a clever solution to save money effectively.

Living over 400 miles away from Vancouver in Calgary, Tim realized that commuting to the city for his studies would actually save him money compared to renting a house there.

Tim reveals expensive rent made him choose to go to school by plane instead of renting a house in the city.

During his interview with CTV News, Tim disclosed that he spends $150 on a round-trip flight twice a week, amounting to a monthly total of $1,200.

This alternative option proves to be almost half the price of renting a one-bedroom apartment in Vancouver, which typically costs around $2,100 per month.

Tim explained his decision, stating, "I thought, why don't I just stay in Calgary and just fly here? It's a one-hour flight. That's the same as taking a bus."

The interview featuring Tim's story was shared on Reddit, sparking various reactions to his unique option.

On social media, some people commented on the inconvenience of having to go through airport procedures frequently and the lack of flexibility in his schedule.

However, many others supported Tim's decision, highlighting the exorbitant rental prices in Vancouver and the financial savings he would achieve by flying.

Moreover, Tim's frequent flights have the added benefit of earning him significant frequent flyer miles. This could lead to future perks such as free upgrades and access to airport lounges.

This is interesting, I would also choose this method if I were in his situation, one user wrote.

A 1-hour flight isn't too long, but it would be troublesome if he was late for the flight, the second said.

$2,100 for a house with only one bedroom is too expensive. He made absolutely the right choice!!! Another commented.

Another case of choosing to take a flight instead of paying rent

Tim is not the only student who has chosen to fly instead of paying high rent.

In a similar case, Sophia Celentano gained attention last year for her weekly flights from Charleston or Richmond to New Jersey.

With a job that only requires her to be in the office once a week, Sophia found it more economical to fly rather than pay expensive rent prices.
