Alien toy eggs were a craze in the UK in the 90s because of the mystery behind having alien babies inside the eggs.

In 1999, Martin Grossman launched the Alien Egg toy that cost £1.99, he claims that the idea came to him one night while he was trying to sleep

By Christmas that year, he had sold three million of the toys, and rumors about their ability to give birth to a smaller alien spread rapidly.

The Alien Egg fad lasted long into the twenty-first century, with millions more sold in subsequent years and the notion that the egg could give birth has never completely vanished.

The toy, which won the Toy Retailers Association's "Craze of the Year" award twice in 1999 and 2004, saw total sales reach 18 million nearly 20 years after its launch.

Grossman, the creator of a mysterious toy, is now retired from the toy industry and is surprisingly difficult to locate.

A publisher and managing director of trade magazine Toy World, John Baulch explains that these kinds of toys are imported from China and that British importers and suppliers will go over to Chinese showrooms to check out their goods.

“It’s possible he could have gone to a Chinese factory with the idea or he could have seen it on a showroom visit and thought: this is brilliant, I’m going to get the distribution for this and turn it into a craze,”

Volsing explains that the popularity of alien eggs in the 1990s was partly due to the widespread fascination with aliens in pop culture, particularly in club culture, TV shows, and films.

A cleaner discovered one of the alien eggs and hurried it to the hospital, believing it was a fetus.

Alien Eggs with babies inside pods were cheating, as the playground myth claimed you could buy one and make it give birth by itself.

Some believe the birth will occur overnight, while others believe a brief stint in the fridge or freezer could trigger the birth.

Some believe in a chemical process for an alien to give birth, with a YouTuber suggesting adding sugar and salt to the mixture to make alien babies.
