In the footage, a woman named Brianna Janel was left horrified after she ended up 'stuck' in her Tesla.
She explained that she sitting in a Chick-fil-A parking lot when she decided to update the vehicle's system, but it took longer than she had anticipated.
Brianna explained in a TikTok video that she had been 'trapped' in the Tesla for 40 minutes - and in 103°F heat no less.
While the cars do have a feature which allows the doors to be released manually, Brianna was cautious of doing this in case she caused any damage to the vehicle.
Brianna also explained that her car's update was expected to take 24 minutes, which is shorter than the 30 minutes stipulated in the regulations.
Despite Tesla cars typically updating for 30 minutes, Brianna's update only lasted 24 minutes, resulting in her getting stuck in her car
She explained; " It says it's only supposed to update for 24 minutes and when your car is updating you are stuck in your car if you activate it when you're in here."
Brianna admitted that she felt foolish after the incident and found herself stuck in her car, literally dripping with sweat.
She said: "Inside my car it's 103 degrees, so I'm slightly freaking out. I hope I don't run out of air."
Brinna even couldn't open the door or windows.
The situation worsened when Brianna couldn't open the doors or windows, with the temperature inside her car reaching 103°F
She added: "I can't open up the doors or the windows otherwise I could potentially damage my car, so I'm just stuck in here roasting like a frickin chicken dripping sweat. My Chick-fil-A order has been done for 30 minutes. I'm literally sitting outside."
After the incident, Brinna shared a video to update her situation.
In the later video, Brinna explained that she had been able to turn on the air conditioning. "I literally made it out of my car. Look I'm sweating. The AC has never felt so good and I’ve never felt better. I feel like I just took a bath," she said.
The video quickly viral on social media and sparked discussion among viwers.
One person said: I’d literally start crying! I CANNOT deal with heat. Id have a mental breakdown as well. I’m glad you’re okay
A second wrote:That seems like a very dangerous design flaw. I’m not familiar with Tesla software, but can you not abort the process and reinstall later? It seems absurd to have it where you cannot exit the vehicle.
While a third commented: Start the car before starting the update, I did it a while back and it kept the air on during the update
Another added: Not Tesla but like 10 years ago there was a guy who got locked in his corvette because he couldn’t locate the manual locks and him and his dog died. Hopefully there was a way out of the Tesla
After escaping the threatening situation, Brianna gave her advice to other Tesla owners.
"I literally made it out of my car. Look I'm sweating. The AC has never felt so good and I’ve never felt better. I feel like I just took a bath," she said.
"Do not update it when you're sitting in the car. Stick to updating it at 2am like I used to do it." She added.
She also wanted to clear up a couple of comments she'd received on her previous video, explaining that she would have opened the car manually if she felt like she was in a life-threatening situation.
