A woman's story on social media sparked controversy when she said her boyfriend asked her to pay the bill with her inheritance money worth $4 million.

The AITA (Am I The A**hole) board on Reddit frequently provides insight into the issues that ordinary people face in their lives.

And this user caused chaos on the platform by revealing her story about a money dispute she was having with her partner.

She shared that she just inherited a lot of money from her grandfather, who passed away not long ago.

The user was shocked to learn that her grandfather had left her nearly $4 million, leading to rapid decisions.

“After I got over the initial shock, I took the opportunity to finally quit my job (which I really hated), as I don’t have any outstanding debts and can easily live off of $40,000 a year,” she said.

“I’m pretty introverted and am more than happy to stay at home working on art/music/other interests and gaming.

“Ever since I inherited the money, my boyfriend has been pressuring me to cover all of the rent and utilities (about $1200 a month) for our apartment and start putting money away into a joint savings fund.”

The woman shared that she and her partner have been dating for a year and a half, and she continues to pay half of the rent and has started hiring a housekeeper to clean their home a few times a week.

"I told my boyfriend he isn't entitled to my money, and he said I was being selfish for expecting him to still contribute to the rent when I could easily afford to pay for the whole thing. AITA?" she said.

After she posted the story on social media, many online users backed her up, warning that her boyfriend was flashing numerous "red flags."

NTA. This is YOUR money. YOU have this money and YOU will do whatever YOU want to do with it, one person emphasized.

That's Okay if both of you are discussing different work options, but the idea of him living off your inheritance is being considered, the second commented.

Bad look dude. I believe that your inheritance money will last a lot longer than the your boyfriend, someone added.

Others, however, had a different opinion.

A commenter expressed concern about their relationship if their girlfriend received a substantial inheritance and used it to retire and live a life of her own.

I absolutely understand the BF's point of view. This involves a year-long relationship with marriage, so it's pretty serious by practically any standard, another wrote.

The woman has made a decision that puts the BF in an awkward position of being expendable.

She has resolved to reorganize her entire life without him. In this way, she bears some of the BF burden, someone added.
