The American mother was determined to leave America
In a thought-provoking TikTok video that has gone viral, an American mother who emigrated to Germany shares her compelling reasons for never wanting to move back to the United States.
Aly, who initially had disagreements with her German husband about leaving the US, now firmly stands by her decision to stay in Germany.
Aly states numerous factors that contribute to her increased happiness in Germany compared to her experiences in the US
From the burden of healthcare expenses that can lead to bankruptcy to the constant fear for her children's safety while attending school, she reveals a multitude of differences.
Aly begins by emphasizing the relief of not having to worry about the affordability of health insurance and allowing her children the freedom to play outside without constant concerns due to significantly lower crime rates.
However, it's not just healthcare and safety that have influenced her decision to stay
Aly also appreciates the superior public amenities available in Germany and the fair treatment of employees in the workplace, "Public transportation. Thirty-plus vacation days a year. So much paid paternal leave."
She further explains the advantages for her son, highlighting his bilingualism and ongoing efforts to become trilingual.
Aly mentions the substantial savings of $100,000 in her son's university tuition fees, a benefit she would not have enjoyed in the US.
Additionally, she expresses gratitude for no longer having to worry about her student loan debts.
Religion and its impact on everyday life also play a role in Aly's decision.
Despite living in a state known for its religious affiliations, she mentions that she no longer feels shame for being an atheist, as religion does not permeate every aspect of German society to the same extent.
"Because even though I live in the most religious state, I'm not shamed for being an atheist," she said.
Childcare costs and the constant threat of school shootings are further factors that resulted in Aly's choice to stay in Germany.
In Germany, she can afford daycare and finds solace in the reduced fear of her children's safety while at school
"The constant fear that my child's school may be the next one to make headlines after a gunman broke in is no longer a concern for me," Aly continued.
Moreover, she appreciates how her taxes are utilized to support other families in need.
"And because my taxes actually go towards helping other families," the American mother added.
