A California police officer's resignation has made headlines after he locked himself in the backseat of a patrol car with a female detainee.
The incident, which happened last year, has gained attention with the recent release of bodycam footage. In addition, the officer, Anthony Hair, stepped down following an investigation into the matter.

According to reports, Hair claimed that he accidentally locked himself in the car with the female suspect, who had allegedly propositioned him for sexual activity.
The woman had been arrested on suspicion of car theft along with another individual outside a convenience store.
After Hair took her into custody, his duty was to transport her to the police headquarters and then to the Las Colinas Detention Center in Santee, California, for further questioning. However, he didn't do that.
In the released bodycam footage, the female detainee can be heard making advances towards the officer, including asking him about his marital status and expressing interest in engaging in sexual activity.
“Are you single?” The female inmate asked the police officer.
‘yeah, but you’re not,' Hair replied.
Hair, realizing that the conversation was being recorded, swiftly asked her to refrain from such comments.
"Don’t say that right now…don’t say that right now because everything is being recorded right now,” he said.
As they approached the detention center, Hair questioned the detainee about her position in the backseat before turning off his bodycam, driving onto a residential street, and slowing down.
It took approximately 20 minutes for Hair to call for assistance from a fellow officer after realizing they were locked in the vehicle together.
Hair reportedly explained to the assisting officer that he believed the woman was experiencing a medical emergency, which is why he was assisting her.
Both Hair and the female detainee deny that anything inappropriate occurred in the backseat of the car. However, traces of semen were found on Hair's belt during the investigation.
The incident quickly gained attention on social media.

He should have arrested himself and read his own miranda rights. At least he will get credit for an arrest. For obvious reasons, the police must be held to a higher standards, one user said.
