A Mexican flight faced significant delays due to a massive swarm of mosquitoes infesting the cabin, as captured in a viral video.

According to Storyful, On October 6, a Volaris flight scheduled to fly from Guadalajara to Mexico City had an unexpected and unwelcome addition to its passenger list—a swarm of mosquitoes.

Passenger Elizabeth Esmeralda Minjarez Corona recorded the itchy ordeal, showing flight attendants trying to fend off the insects by cabin crew to cloud jet with spray. They also waved their arms and used insect repellent as the mosquitoes buzzed around the cabin.

Originally, the flight was set to depart at 4:30 p.m., but the mosquito infestation caused a delay, pushing the departure time back to 7 p.m.
It remains unclear how the mosquitoes infiltrated the aircraft with over 200 passengers, but this isn't the first instance of such an incident at Guadalajara International Airport. Reports from local media mentioned a similar mosquito infestation on a Volaris flight in 2019.

Local media reports suggest that the airport's location, with nearby flooding-prone areas, abundant vegetation, and contaminated bodies of water, creates an environment conducive to mosquito proliferation, exacerbated by certain weather conditions.

Local media reports: “proliferation of mosquitoes because it is located near areas with flooding and abundant vegetation, as well as some nearby bodies of water that are contaminated. It also has to do with weather conditions.”

Mexican journalist Juan Manuel Jiménez describes the incident on X:
“Yesterday I took a flight from @flyvolaris @viajaVolaris and the plane was full of mosquitoes,”
