Gen Z cancels leggings — fashion fans reveal what you should be wearing instead

Sunday, 26/11/2023, 17:06 (GMT+7)

Regular leggings are gradually being replaced by yoga pants or flared leggings to keep up with the latest fashion trends.

Call them the unofficial uniform of people born between 1981 and 1996, especially in their teenage years, and you're almost guaranteed to find a black bundle of the soft and stretchy, all-purpose pants substitutes in any Millennial woman's dresser drawer.

Leggings could be paired with anything, from a going-out top and studded jewelry for dinner to a hoodie for a quick run to the store — and, of course, Uggs.

They have now been canceled.

Gen Z style experts have deemed roll-on thigh-huggers outdated and cheugy, causing them to be discarded from the Victoria's Secret sale.

Thankfully, our kind dictators, the aging fashionistas, have something new, carefully chosen, that they know we'll adore: yoga pants.

They were also known as flared leggings during the Gen Z era.

Hannah Brown, a millennial TikToker, has gained viral fame for sourcing style advice from the "hot girls of TikTok," an unofficial group of young beauties on the controversial social media platform.

Brown shared a video showcasing her outfit for errands, including Air Force Jordan lows, black leggings, a chunky knit sweater, and a tote bag.

Her best answer from Gen Z is that leggings are no longer a thing.

Rather, the fashion-aware commenters advocated for everyone to switch to flared leggings or yoga pants.

For the "holy combo," Gen Zers are commonly seen accessorizing the form-fitting but comfy bottoms with delicate gold jewelry, a crewneck sweater, and platform UGGs or Birkenstocks.

Similar to tight leggings, flared leggings can be dressed up or down to suit almost any occasion, allowing everyone to feel and look great.

Gen Z prefers solid colors with a thin waistband for yoga pants, while Millennials prefer bright prints or black with a thick waistband, contrasting with the traditional yoga pants worn by yore.

Not only are yoga pants being remade in the image of Gen Zers, though.

They have been busy bringing back a plethora of what they call "Y2K trends," some of which Millennials are genuinely thrilled about (popcorn shirts, slip dresses, and flip phones), and some of which they aren't so much—micro miniskirts, over-plucked eyebrows, and low-rise jeans.
