Steve Challice, visiting Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness with his brother, spotted a strange sight – a "sort of ripple in the water."  He quickly grabbed his camera, capturing what some believe is proof of Nessie.

It wasn't until 2020,  Steve rediscovered the photo while reviewing his vacation pictures.  The image captured a large creature, estimated at 8ft long, briefly breaking the water's surface.

He told the Daily Record: "I started taking a couple of shots and then this big fish came to the surface and then went back down again. It only appeared in one shot and to be honest that was something of a fluke. I watched for a while as you can see from the last picture but didn't see it again."

Steve shared this picture on social media to determine what 8ft beast on Loch Ness is

He posted the image online, seeking help with identification.  While some believe it to be the Loch Ness Monster, Steve leans towards a more common explanation – a large catfish or perhaps a seal.

One person said: The ‘wash’ behind it is way, way too long.......on less it travelling at about 40 knots....

A second wrote: He's real for sure... my 4 year old saw Nessie when we drove along the Loch Ness ... 100% convinced!!

While a third commented: That’s really bad photo shop.. the waves coming off it are.. wrong.. and if you zoom in the “monster” becomes pixilated.

Someone else said: Do people think this monster has a life span of infinity. Any fish or amphibian has a life spen. This myth has been going since the sixth century.... I mean, fuckinell, how old dya think this monster is.....

Another added: Biggest joke in Scotland are tourists thinking Nessie is real, Some people have managed to retire on the lunacy alone.

Richard Mavor, aged 54, was shocked after observers detected the mysterious creature in Loch Ness.

The pilot was recording content for his YouTube channel, "Richard Outdoors," when he accidentally filmed the figure swimming along the banks of the loch.

At that time, Richard and his friends were participating in the Great Glen Canoe Challenge to support the Alzheimer's Society.

Richard said: “I couldn’t believe it. I had to rewind the footage several times and have watched it several times since.".

He added: 'I didn't notice what I had picked up until others told me to watch out for it. It could be a trick of the light but we can't be sure.'

It's not the first sighting of the Loch Ness monster this year.

Woman claims she took a new 'sighting' of the Loch Ness monster but has kept it a secret for years.

In 2018, photographer Chie Kelly captured incredible photos of an unidentified eel-like creature slowly spinning on the surface of a famous Scottish lake.

Initially, she decided to keep the photos to herself. However, Kelly was later inspired to reveal the secrets following the recent massive search for the Loch Ness Monster, the largest in more than 50 years, involving hundreds of volunteers.

The debate continues!  Is the Loch Ness Monster a myth, or is there something lurking in the depths?
