Surveillance footage captured a 22-year-old man standing motionless inside a Polish department store, pretending to be a mannequin while reportedly waiting to commit theft.
The footage revealed that instead of choosing a concealed location to hide, the CCTV footage showed the man standing in plain view within a storefront display, clutching a bag.
There, he posed as a mannequin, remaining perfectly still, simulating a mannequin in front of the store window to evade detection by surveillance cameras.
He held his pose until closing time, after which he suddenly sprang into action, bag in hand, and allegedly proceeded to burglarize a jewelry store in Warsaw.
Assistant inspector Robert Szumiata from the Śródmieście District Police Headquarters said in a statement, saying: 'When he felt safe, he went hunting and robbed the island of jewellry'.
Police said in a statement: ''With a bag in his hand, he stood still in front of a shop window, pretending to be a display mannequin. When he felt safe, he went hunting and robbed the island of jewellery."
The suspected burglary incident unfolded as the individual reportedly made a proactive effort to replace his own garments with items from a local store.
The man's name was not publicly disclosed, and he also allegedly looted a jewelry stand in the shopping center.
CCTV footage further captures the suspect's stealthy maneuver as he crawls under the partially closed shutters of an outlet in the mall.
This incident was not the first reported instance of the individual allegedly pilfering from the department store. Reportedly, he once again bided his time until the establishment's closing hours, after which he dined at a nearby bar. Subsequently, he deftly entered another retail outlet, circumventing a sturdy steel curtain, and allegedly grabbed some designer clothing.
The Downtown Department for Combating Property Crime has charged the man with burglary and theft.
