Police in India have launched a thorough investigation following a startling incident where Ram Sumer, 60, reported his wife, Phoolmati, missing after she failed to return home.
Days later, a woman’s body was discovered in Gorakhpur, prompting Sumer to identify and cremate the remains, believing them to be his wife’s.
However, a subsequent post-mortem examination revealed the deceased had been strangled, complicating the case further. Indian police discovered that a woman believed to be dead was actually alive, 372 miles away.
To the astonishment of authorities, Phoolmati was found alive in Jhansi, 372 miles away, communicating regularly with a man named Shubham from Sultanpur.
Following their reunion, Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Tomar confirmed that Phoolmati's statement had been recorded, initiating a probe into the circumstances involving Sumer, Phoolmati, Shubham, and the deceased woman mistakenly cremated.
The shock incident sparked debate on social media.
