This incident took place when Brazilian UFO researcher and author, Edie Meireles, snapped these unusual photos.

The unidentified object in the images resembled a spherical UFO with what looked like ‘yellow landing lights.’

Some researchers suggested it could be the first selfie ever taken with a UFO.

The pictures were taken on a hiking trail leading to ‘La cascada de la purificación,’ a cold-water waterfall.

This location is in Chapada Diamantina National Park, Brazil, known for its high altitudes.

UFO Enthusiast faces threats, abductions, and military encounters

After the event, a fellowenthusiast mentioned that years followed with “threats and intrigue.”

During this time, two group members were reportedly “eliminated by the military,” and three others were “abducted.”

Meireles explained that his sighting in one of South America’s most stunning ecological reserves had serious consequences.

He revealed that “uniformed and black-clad men” raided his home afterward.

Some online skeptics have suggested that these images could be ‘sky lanterns’ held up by candle heat or manipulated photographs.

In a post in March 2022, Meireles boasted that his authentic photo was the ‘only selfie with a flying saucer.’

He shared stories of multiple return trips to the national park, where he repeatedly saw these UFOs and interacted with their occupants.

Meireles explained that his expeditions to the national park resulted in additional unwanted military encounters.

These military confrontations, according to him, were a consequence of his ongoing efforts to investigate the UFO sightings in the region.

‘Upon the result of the interrogation is […] Broken: 4 left ribs and left knee […] Punctured with blood in the left lung,’ and worse, Meireles said.

Chapada Diamantina national park protects rare species

Meireles’s story, regardless of its accuracy, takes place in Brazil’s Chapada Diamantina National Park.

This park, established in 1985, was created to protect endangered species from the Amazon Basin.

The Chapada Diamantina National Park is home to species like the giant armadillo (Priodontes maximus) and the giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla).

Additionally, the park also protects the Chaco eagle (Buteogallus coronatus), a vulnerable species.
