A model was disappointed after a $135 dress order went wrong, as it looked like ‘pieces of cloth’.
A $135 dress order gone wrong
A woman was left heartbroken after ordering two dresses online, only to receive poor-quality garments that looked nothing like the advertised images.
Theidi Kale, 21, purchased a corset-style dress and a sequin gown from Mifulan in November last year.
She spent around $135, including shipping and custom fees.
One of the dresses was meant for the Miss Royal Regents South Africa beauty contest on December 7.
Theidi expected her order to arrive in time for the event. However, the package was delayed and didn’t reach her until January 23—93 days after the purchase.
When she opened it, she was stunned. The dresses were nothing like the images she had seen online.
Theidi was disappointed as her $135 dress order was of poor quality.
Theidi, a model and part-time beautician from Johannesburg, South Africa, shared her frustration.
“I was so disappointed,” she said. “It didn’t make sense why they would send just a piece of cloth instead of what was shown in the pictures.”
She added, “Not only did I wait more than 90 days, but I also didn’t get what I ordered. The fabric was cheap, the glitter fell off everywhere, and the quality was terrible.”
A viral video leads to a response
Theidi immediately contacted Mifulan to request a refund. However, she received no response until her complaint went viral.
Then, she shared video exposing the scam racked up on social media, which quickly went viral and sparked debate among viewers.
Even after this, the company only offered her a 10% reimbursement—around $12.50—while allowing her to keep the dresses.
Many viewers also shared their shock about the incident, while others shared similar experiences they had when ordering online
One person said: Stop ordering from Temu!
A second wrote: Never buy from people you can’t get a refund from…
While a third commented: Online shopping…. Go to a store & try on.
Another added: It was $135.00. Not exactly expensive. You can get that at Boscovs, Macys. Not anything special, what did you expect?
Someone else said: 2 dresses, not one–dirt cheap online–and she’s “shocked” at poor quality. Smhi
Same thing happened to me… Another added.
Go to your credit card company and dispute the charges. Someone suggested.
Fighting for a refund
Theidi refused the offer and insisted on returning the items for a full refund. Mifulan discouraged her by claiming that shipping costs would be more expensive than the refund itself.
“They tried to convince me that the return costs would be too high and that I’d likely lose the package on the way,” she said. “But if big stores like Shein and Temu allow returns, why can’t they?”
Despite multiple emails, Mifulan has since stopped responding. Theidi is still waiting for her refund.
“I trusted them because I saw reviews on Pinterest, but now I know better,” she said. “They scammed me, and I don’t want others to go through the same thing.”
Theidi’s experience serves as a warning to online shoppers. Before making a purchase, research the retailer, check multiple review sources, and verify their return policies.
If an online deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
