Worshippers in Mexico were left shocked after witnessing the real-life 'miracle' of a statue of the Virgin Mary 'crying.' The mesmerizing event was captured on video and went viral on social media.
The purported miracle occurred at a church in El Canal, situated in the state of Colima.
A video circulating on social media displays water droplets falling from the statue's eyes, streaming down her face.
Thousand of believed and spectators, gathered at the spiritual statue, hoping to witness the tearful Virgin Mary themselves. Some witnesses even claimed that the statue's eyes turned red as tears rolled down.
Resident Victor Ramos said: "Similarly, when we cry, and our eyes become red, the same happens to the image. So a couple of tears started flowing. This is the event, the phenomenon that is happening here in the church."
The video uploaded on social media showed tiny water droplets emerging from the statue's eyes and tracing down its face. According to the witness, the tears are real.
Some spectators interpret the statue's tears as a symbolic call for peace in the violence-ridden community.
One person said: There certainly is a lot to cry about in this world. Even the statues are brokenhearted.
A second wrote: A miracle would be stopping all the senseless violence around the world. But I guess statues will have to do.
While someone else said: The whole world is weeping these days and I don't blame them.
While numerous people believed that the so-called miracle, Professor Luigi Garlaschelli offered a scientific perspective, suggesting that certain statues can absorb water based on their materials.'You need a hollow statue made of plaster or ceramic,' Garlaschelli explained.
This is not the first time the Virgin Mary statue has started crying, with tears rolling down her cheeks.
