A woman shares her remarkable journey after receiving a man’s hands in a transplant, revealing the incredible changes in her body.
Shreya underwent man’s hands transplanted after a tragic bus accident
Shreya Siddanagower, an Indian woman, has captivated many with her inspiring story.
After a terrible bus accident at the age of 18, Shreya lost both of her arms below the elbow.
Instead of feeling sorry for herself, she decided to take a brave step forward regaining her independence.
For years, Shreya tried using prosthetic hands, but they did not work well for her.
In 2017, she made the life-changing decision to undergo a hand transplant.
Shreya said: “I have been in a horrible bus accident, it was so horrible that I lost both my forearms just below the elbow in an accident.
“Prosthetic hands didn’t work for me at all that’s when I decided to op for a bilateral hand transplant.
You know it’s been almost two years since my surgery and I can do most of my work and I don’t have to depend on anyone else.”
This complex surgery lasted 13 hours and involved a large team of 20 surgeons and 16 anesthesiologists.
The donor was a 21-year-old man who had tragically died in a bike accident.
The journey of the woman did not end with the surgery.
In a video she posted on Facebook in 2019, she shared her experience and encouraged others to appreciate their hands.
She stated, “Hands are one of the greatest assets you can ever have.”
She expressed gratitude for her second chance at life, saying, “I can do most of my work and I don’t have to depend on anyone else.”
“I feel like every person has the right to lead his or her life with some dignity.”
She added: “I’m glad I got a second chance in my life and I couldn’t have been more grateful.
“I’m first female in the entire world to have male hands I think you cannot make out I’ve got male hands because they have feminine features now.”
Woman reveals incredible changes on her body after undergoing man’s hands transplanted
One of the most surprising aspects of Shreya’s story is the changes her new hands underwent after the transplant.
Initially, the hands she received were darker than her own skin tone.
Over time, however, they began to change color and gradually matched her complexion.
This transformation was unexpected, and it amazed many experts.
Dr. Uday Khopkar, a dermatologist, explained that Shreya’s body might produce less melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color, compared to her donor.
This color change is something that researchers want to study further to understand how it happens.
In addition to the change in color, Shreya noticed that her hands became slimmer over time.
She reflected on her accident and described it as a turning point in her life. Instead of seeing it as a tragedy, she now views it as the beginning of something new and beautiful.
“The accident could have been the end of me, but strangely enough, it became the making of something better,” she shared.
Social media reactions
On social media, many online users also left their comments on the man’s hands on her arms.
Due to her feminine hormones bone density and her hand shapes will also change soon, one user said.
Great to see her Brain accepted the limbs and started to change its colour matching her body, the second user commented.
The hands do look a little bit bigger but I think its mostly the forearm that catches my attention. She’s such a beautiful miracle in every way. A fighter too I bet, the third user said.
Yep, she knew something was wrong when she started trying to pick her nose and scratch her bollocks, another commented.
That’s so interesting. The human body really is miraculous, someone wrote.
