In an unearthed Reddit comment, a McDonald's worker revealed a dirty secret about McCafe machines: you never want to order from McDonald's. 

McDonald's McCafe machines, responsible for brewing a variety of coffee-based beverages, are often neglected when it comes to proper cleaning. Here's what you need to know:

Employees aren't adequately trained to clean them, resulting in insides that are often caked with "black soot." Imagine 5+ inches of uncleaned residue making up the inner parts of these machines—hardly an appetizing thought.

The staff member reveals that special brushes are missing

The Reddit user, who worked at a McDonald's in Alberta, Canada, highlighted a significant issue: the lack of proper cleaning tools. 

According to the Reddit user, the machines require "special brushes" for proper cleaning. Unfortunately, they hadn't seen any McDonald's restaurants equipped with these essential tools.

It's not just the McCafe machines suffering from a lack of attention. 

The milkshake machine and fountain drink dispenser also fall victim to infrequent cleaning. So, if you're a fan of McDonald's shakes, you might want to think twice.

McDonald's claims to have implemented safety protocols across all its restaurants.

These protocols cover everything from food sourcing to menu development. Additionally, the company emphasizes internal knowledge sharing through communication and training.

Additionally, in a viral video on TikTok, a user left viewers shocked after revealing the overall hygiene practices at McDonald's.

The video included a slideshow of 31 replies, featuring multiple responses from McDonald's workers echoing similar concerns. One user emphatically warned, "I work for McDonald's and make sure everyone that matters to me never orders anything that comes out of the McCafe machine."

In response to these allegations, McDonald's has emphasized its commitment to food safety. 

According to their website, strict food safety standards and protocols are integral to their operations.

'Strict food safety standards and protocols are embedded in everything we do, from food sourcing, menu development, packaging and distribution to the running of our restaurants,' the site states.

Additionally, McDonald's states that they are embracing new technologies. They also enhancing their training programs to ensure better hygiene practices, aiming to maintain high safety standards across all their outlets.

So social media, many sparked discussion about the cleaning of McCafe machines.

One person said: My sons are in college and work at McDonald’s just as I did in high school and college. They both just verified that shake machines are disassembled daily for cleaning. Soda machines are cleaned too to prevent mold growth. That’s exactly what my McDonalds did when I was younger.

A second wrote: At the McDonalds I used to work at, only the overnight staff or managers were taught how to clean the drinks appliances. As I did a few overnight shifts.I learnt at least how to clean the coffee machines, so if they stopped working during the day. I would usually be the one to sort them out. Personally I wouldn't drink out of the shakes machine, especially due to how often it doesn't get cleaned.

While a third commented: Back in the 1990s when I worked at McDonald’s we had standards. We were required to clean everything at the end of the night. And after hours a janitor would work to detail the floors and bathrooms.

Someone else said: Worked there and can confirm. They also fry the fish in the chicken area and vice versa. Cross contamination op
