A woman, shared her story on TikTok, expressing her shock at the unexpected request. As she stood at the register ready to complete her purchase, the salesperson presented her with an option to leave a tip.
Great rise of the tip in the US
Recently, a bride-to-be expressed her furious on TikTok about the tip situation, which garnered thousands of viewers, questioning whether the tip is essential for all services in the country.
Ina Josipović, 30, got engaged to her longtime boyfriend back in the spring of 2023 and was preparing for her wedding in June.
To turn the wedding into a perfect day, she went to a wedding store where she found her dream wedding gown; however, everything was dashed when she was suddenly requested a tip before completing her transaction.
When the tip becomes an obsession
At the beginning of the video, Ina affirmed that the story was totally truth and she had to pay a tip for that wedding store.
"I'm not joking, when I went to go pay, they flipped their little iPad around, and it asked for a tip," she recounted.
"When I tell you, I full-on froze… I just stood there, and I think they saw the blood leave my body.
"I did not expect to have to tip buying a wedding dress," she disappointedly said.
Ina went on to explain that the store was empty save for her and her best friend, along with the owner and two on-duty 'stylists.'
Ina then asked her friend if she had ever been asked to tip for a wedding dress.
Her BFF responded with disbelief: "No"
According to Ina, she had to pay $1,500 to $2,000 for her favorite wedding dress and then she paid an extra cost as a tip of $50 for the store.
She added the tip was paid to the stylist just because they helped her pick it out.
"I think ends up being like 1.5 percent, which is like, almost embarrassing," she lamented.
Ina angrily questioned: "If you guys think your stylist deserves a tip, why don't you just give her commission instead of asking me to tip?"
"Have any other brides ever tipped when they bought their wedding dress?" Ina asked.
She continued: "Maybe I'm being weird, but I just don't feel like that was a service… I guess you brought dresses out to me. But I did that when I worked at stores, I just got a commission off selling clothes to people."
"Tipping is kind of weird lately," she concluded.
At the end of the video, Ina emphasized that she doesn't think the tip is essential for this service.
The tip is now out of control in the US
