OceanGate co-founder believes people can live on Venus following Titan sub disaster

Wednesday, 19/06/2024, 16:57 (GMT+7)

After the Titan sub disaster, almost every statement related to the journey to explore the Titanic wreck gained attention in the media.

However, during this time, a co-founder of the Titan submersible made a shocking statement about humans potentially living safely on the planet Venus.

Yes, you heard that right.

Guillermo Söhnlein, co-founder of the Titan submersible and Humans2Venus Foundation, boldly asserted that people can safely live on the planet Venus

His ambitious goal is to establish a floating colony on Venus and house 1,000 humans there by the year 2050. Although Guillermo Söhnlein co-founded OceanGate in 2009, he stepped away from the company in 2013.

The founder of OceanGate, Rush, was among the four victims—Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawood, and Sulaiman Dawood—all reportedly killed after the Titan submersible's catastrophic implosion.

After the Titan sub disaster, Söhnlein has claimed the potential for human survival on Venus before Mars.

Söhnlein, the founder of Humans2Venus, established this organization in 2020.

The Humans2Venus Foundation, championed by Söhnlein, promotes Venus as a viable long-term destination for humanity. The nonprofit organization aims to garner support and conduct research dedicated to realizing this ambitious vision

In his blog, Söhnlein outlines a future where humans utilize advanced breathing apparatus and acid-resistant materials to adapt to Venus' extreme environment.

He suggests that establishing habitats 50km above the surface could provide Earth-like conditions, leveraging proximity and orbital similarities to reduce costs and enhance safety.

He write:  “We could embark on our Venusian journey TODAY... and do it safely and cost-effectively".

Söhnlein argues that Venus presents a more accessible option than Mars for human exploration. He advocates for prioritizing Venus missions as a strategic step towards interplanetary colonization, emphasizing the potential for NASA to lead this endeavor.

"Also, we don’t have to worry about conducting successful landings on the planet’s surface, which is one of the biggest challenges awaiting us on Mars" he said.

“If anything, one could argue that sending humans to Venus BEFORE sending them to Mars might be a better way to safely develop the capabilities to create a Martian community,” he wrote.

The 57-year-old Argentinian businessman referred to NASA findings that point to a small section of Venus' atmosphere, about 30 miles below the surface, where humans could theoretically survive, as the newspaper reported.

Thornlein envisions creating a floating colony that can withstand the challenges posed by Venus' atmosphere, including the presence of sulfuric acid, which currently makes the planet uninhabitable for humans.

According to Insider, Söhnlein said: “Forget Oceangate. Forget Titan. Forget Stockton. Humanity could be on the verge of a big breakthrough and not take advantage of it because we, as a species, are going to get shut down and pushed back into the status quo."

His aspirations extend beyond personal achievements; he envisions a community of 1,000 humans living in the clouds of Venus by 2050. While his goals are ambitious, Söhnlein remains confident in their attainability.

As the one-year anniversary is comming closer, I'm reflecting back on a time that nearly broke me, and yet the love and support. I've received was, and still is, so huge that I can't feel anything but gratitude.

I miss them every day, every hour, and every minute; They will never be replaced. With these candles, I'd like to send their light to anyone who's open enough to receive it.

I'd like to thank everyone for their love and prayers. I felt them, and they helped.

Light a candle for missing people in your life ans send their light into the world."
