During an exploration of underwater caves in Egypt, a 44-year-old Russian tourist named Kristina Osipova didn't resurface after diving below international depths with her husband.
Kristina Osipova was reported missing in Egypt after diving 'too deep' to 400ft while she and her husband explored underwater caves.
Kristina's husband, Yuri Osipov, 41, surfaced unconscious after aborting his dive due to discomfort, while they were exploring the spectacular underwater caves. Unfortunately, Kristina continued descending into the caves alone.
Regrettably, she didn't resurface with her husband.
Currently, a search is underway for Mrs. Osipova, who is a mother of four children aged between five and 24. The search operation has been ongoing for four days since her disappearance on a ten-day cruise in the Red Sea."
According to Russian Consulate General diplomat Alexei Zhilyaev, they said: 'After the husband's ascent, the computer showed a maximum depth of 122 meters [400ft]. This is the depth at which they were and both lost consciousness.
'When her husband surfaced and regained consciousness, his wife was not around.'
The search area has been expanded for the missing woman, however, according to rescuers there is little hope of finding her. The frantic husband has actively participated in the search efforts.
Mustafa Nabil, the commander of the rescue ship, expressed concerns that her body may not be found if carried away by a strong undercurrent.
The couple was part of a tourist group consisting of nine individuals who were diving to explore caves at a depth of 120ft below the surface near Giftun Island, south of the Hurghada resort.
Reportedly, the couple descended further into the depths without using any special equipment.
Nabil said: 'We are still searching for the missing person, we have also informed all ships in the area that if anyone sees the body of a missing diver on the surface to contact law enforcement.'
The search operation involves a minimum of four boats. A diver with a record-breaking diving experience was deployed to the depth the couple had descended, but unfortunately, there were no indications of the missing woman. The couple, originally from St. Petersburg, is said to be experienced divers.
