The simple mistake you're making when booking flights.

Jess Bohorquez, who comes from the US, known as @PointsByJ on TikTok recently shared a video about a travel mistake her best friend made when attempting to book a flight.

In her video, Jess pointed out that her friend had only been searching for round trips. However, she emphasized that, in her opinion, this should be avoided.

In the footage, she said: 'So my best friend was just over here and said something about travel that kind of blew my mind - so I knew I had to make a video about it,'

She added:  '[We're] just talking about how hard it's been to find flights to book with points that are a reasonable number of points...

'I asked her to tell me about how she was searching and it turns out she was only searching for round-trip flights.'

Upon inquiring about her friend's search approach, Jess discovered that her friend had been exclusively looking for round-trip flights. She exclaimed, "I asked her about her search process, and it turns out she was only searching for round-trip flights."

Jess was taken aback and recommended a more suitable approach, stating, 'The best way to search is for one way.'

She went on to mention that her best friend had been accustomed to always searching for round-trip options, but Jess aimed to change this conventional approach.

She shared, 'This is my myth busting tip of the day.

'If you want to find more reasonably priced flights, especially for points redemptions, search for each leg of the flight as a one way.'

The video quickly garnered a multitude of comments.

One person said: Mmm, my experience is if you book two single trips and the airline cancels a flight they have no interest in refunding both ways. They treat it separately and leave you either no way of getting there or getting home.

A second said: This only works with US domestic flights and budget carriers in Europe, definitely don't book any long haul or legacy carrier flights as one way as you will pay a lot more.

A third commented:  I booked my inbound flight months before booking my outbound flight and I saved nearly half of the price I was originally quoted.

Airlines commonly offer customers the choice between booking one-way and round-trip flights. As a result, frequent flyers often rely on point systems and rewards programs provided by the airlines to save money.
