Hailey, from the US, shared a TikTok video recounting the embarrassing mishap in which she accidentally sliced into the bride and groom's wedding cake.

In the video, she shared:

"Me, a guest at my friend's wedding! Ignoring the brownie table and confidentially cutting myself a slice of her wedding cake thinking 'Uh-oh! They forgot to serve it to everyone else!'" she said.

"My apologies to the bride and groom."

Explaining the situation she assumed that the couple had simply 'forgotten to serve it'.Then she admitted that she hated herself.

She explained: 'Ignoring the brownie table and confidently cutting myself a slice of HER WEDDING CAKE thinking, "Uh-oh. They forgot to serve it to everyone".'

She added: 'I know better now. I hate myself.'

The video garnered swift attention from the public in a matter of days, and the bride commented on the matter at hand.

'As the bride whose cake this is - she is formally forgiven and has learned her lesson in wedding etiquette,' she wrote.

One person wrote: I would not care AT ALL if I were the bride. It is not worth embarrassing a guest over! I would probably lose it or damage it before a year was up anyway. Who cares?!

A second said: So what if they had forgotten to serve it, You had already been served dinner, drinks, cake -and brownies- but still you hadn't had enough and went about looking for more cake. Utterly Shameless and disrespectful. At least enquire first.

A third said: Everyone knows the top tier is for the bride and groom to freeze and take out in a year, this chick must have been living under a rock. How embarrassing.

Someone else said: The top tier is traditionally kept for the first child's christening. Because nobody follows wedding etiquette anymore it's no surprise that no one knows about these traditions.

Another added: Do you didn't think to ask first? What do YoU expect the bride and groom to do? Put a signage on the table to say do not touch! Wanted more cake and helped herself

If this is genuine - then WOW! Whatever the reason you think the cake hasn't yet been served, I would NEVER cut a cake that wasn't mine - whether it be a wedding, birthday, or even just a dessert cake at a dinner party, and I would be furious if somebody cut mine. Yes, it's just a cake, but it's what the cake represents that's important and I find it hard to believe that ANYBODY wouldn't know good cake etiquette! Another said.
